Past

About the event

Picket lines, posters and collective action: protests and protesting were a necessity for social change. Protests had been a frequent activity in the recent past, but protesting had since taken on a different form.

This day-long workshop, presented as a collaboration between Magna Żmien and Moviment Graffitti, explored Malta’s history of protest while actively applying archival material to create resources through which participants could make their voices heard.

Since 1995, Moviment Graffitti had been one of Malta’s leading non-governmental organisations fighting against injustice, particularly in relation to the environment. The organisation had coordinated hundreds of protests and peaceful actions, amassing an archive that documented its activities. Magna Żmien, also an NGO, focused on preserving Maltese memory by digitising analogue material relating to life in Malta during the 20th century.

The workshop included interventions from activists, archivists and activist-archivists.
